HOLDRUM TEEN REC PROGRAM – 2010/2011
WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO JOIN!
Hi 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and parents. Welcome to another year of Teen Rec!
WHAT IS TEEN REC??
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Holdrum Teen Rec program, it is a PTA sponsored program into which all Holdrum students are eligible to enroll. We hold a different event almost every month. Some events take place at Holdrum and some are offsite. Examples of what we might do are dances, sports events, snow tubing, ice skating, and our annual year-end swim party. Not all events are for all of the grades. Sometimes one grade is alone and sometimes two or all three grades participate together.
REQUIREMENTS
Being a Holdrum student does not automatically mean that you are enrolled in the Teen Rec program. There is membership fee of $25 per child which covers the entertainment and activities for the Holdrum events. Also, Teen Rec subsidizes the offsite events, but, because of the higher costs associated with them, many of these events also require an additional fee to help cover the costs.
In addition, due to insurance regulations and because Teen Rec is a PTA sponsored program, PTA membership is required for student participation in this program.
NEW CHAPERONE RULES!!!
Parents – if your child enrolls in Teen Rec, you must chaperone one event during the school year.
Parent Chaperones are one of the ways we can keep our children safe while they have fun at Teen Rec events. A new adherence program is set up this year and we request a SEPERATE check made out to RIVERVALE PTA for $25.00 AND DATED THE DATE OF YOUR CHOSEN CHAPERONE DATE. Please send this check into school with your child in an envelope marked ”C/O Dina DeMayo-Teen Recreation Chaperone” no later than September 21, 2010. This check will be returned to you on your chaperone date upon leaving. If you do not show on the night you were intended to chaperone or find an acceptable replacement and did not notify your Grade Coordinator your check will be added as a donation to the Holdrum Teen Rec funds for the year.
One of the forms which you must fill out lets you list your choice of which event you would like to chaperone. If you are interested in chaperoning more than one event – maybe even all seven! - please let us know. Having the same parents at all or most of the events helps to insure consistency in adhering to rules and following procedures. Our goal is for our children to have fun in a safe environment.
HOW TO JOIN TEEN REC – IT IS ALL BEING DONE ONLINE NOW!!
To join Teen Rec, please go to the PTA website at www.rivervalepta.com. If you don’t already have an account with the River Vale Schools (the same one you use to order food), you must create one by going to “user login”. If you already have an account, simply log in. Look for the “Navigation” heading and click on the tab for “Programs/Clubs”. Then click on “Teen Rec.” Next, click on the “Join” tab and fill out the information. The $25 enrollment fee per student will be paid through PayPal. Please make sure you print out and sign the parent and student agreements, making sure you have read the rules and bring it to your first event. All registrations should be completed by Tuesday, September 21.
A schedule of Teen Rec events is available on the web site. Please be sure to note which events correspond to your child’s/children’s grade and if a permission slip is needed. All Teen Rec permission slips which are needed for the various events will also be posted on this site (about a week before the event date). Flyers and announcements such as date or time changes will also be made here – as well as through an email sent to you when you provide us with your email address.
